906-450-5033 (new cell phone number)
We invite rockhounds to attend the annual Grand Marais (Michigan) Rock and Mineral Show! This year's show takes place on Sept. 9-10th, the weekend after Labor Day (as usual each year). We offer inside booths, outside booths, a Grand Prize raffle, 50/50 raffles, music outside in the afternoons, food trucks, and more!
About Us
The Grand Maria’s Rock and Mineral Show was established in Grand Marias in 2019, after moving from Muskallunge State Park. The show has since evolved from strictly a Lake Superior Agate show to include other rocks and minerals, particularly from, but not limited to, the Great Lakes Basin. We are strictly a volunteer organization and are currently in the process of obtaining nonprofit status. The generosity of local and regional businesses, and our hard working volunteers are what make this show possible.
GMRMS 2022 RECAP
Last year's 2022 Grand Marais Rock and Mineral Show, was a huge success! The show experienced growth in all areas. Attendance over the two day event hit 1,600 and vendor booths increased by 25%, to just under 40. The event grossed $14,542 and after expenses, realized a net total of $10,482. These proceeds will go toward our community benefit projects.
THANK YOU
Many thanks to the businesses that donated money and items for the prize raffle, to the rock and food vendors, and especially to those contributing to the Grand Prize Raffle.
Special thanks to Bill and Angela Kuhn for spearheading the Grand Prize Raffle and to Kingsley North for donating lapidary equipment for the Grand Prize.
Plans for GMRMS 2023
Mark your calendars for September 9 & 10, 2023, the weekend following Labor Day. This year we will put our focus on the Grand Prize Raffle which will include multiple prize opportunities. 50/50 raffles will again be held on both days. The smaller prize raffles will be discontinued. Look forward to live music in the afternoon on the outside stage. For several reasons, we will not have a keynote speaker and dinner this year on Saturday night. However, the new Agatelady Rock Shop may sponsor a speech on Friday night ($20/person) and may have special show hours on Saturday night. More information will be provided at a later time.
The Lutheran Church will have a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Saturday morning from 8:30 - 11:00am. The church is located west of the show venue across the street from Woodland Park Campground.
The Advisory Committee will be soliciting financial sponsors beginning in the spring. If your business would like to be a financial sponsor, please send an email to Karen Brzys at grandmaraisrockshow@gmail.com. The businesses that donate will be listed on our website, on our Facebook page (GrandMaraisRockShow), and on signs located at both rock show entrances.
The previously held Saturday and Sunday prize raffles will not be be held this year. We will instead focus on the and will instead concentrate our efforts on the Grand Prize Raffle sponsored by Kingsley North. as well as some significant runner-up prizes. UPDATES
The 2023 Grand Marais Rock and Mineral Show will take place the weekend after Labor Day on September 9-10, 2023.
This year the Grand Marais Rock and Mineral Show will take place the weekend after Labor Day — September 9-10th. Rather than have separate prize raffles, this year we will have one Grand Prize Raffle with several runner-up prizes. We will still conduct 50/50 raffles on both days and will again have music in the afternoon in the outside venue. For several reasons, we will not have a keynote speech and dinner this year on Saturday night. However, the new Agatelady Rock Shop may sponsor a speech on Friday night ($20/person) and may have special show hours on Saturday night. More information will be provided at a later time. The Luthurn Church will also have a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Saturday morning from 8:30 - 11:00am. The church is located west of the show venue across the street from Woodland Park Campground.

--SATURDAY MORNING 9/10/22: The First Lutheran Church (across from Woodland Park Campground and west of the rock show) will again hold a PANCAKE BREAKFAST. They will be serving pancakes, eggs, OJ, sausage and more. Price = donation. The hours on Saturday, September 10th are: 8:30 am to 11:00 am.
--VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We are in need of volunteers during the show to help with working the show entry desk, silent auction, walking security, clean up during and after the show, and more. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at grandmaraisrockshow@gmail.com.
CONTINUING THIS YEAR: All excess revenue raised at the Grand Marais Rock and Mineral Show is used to fund community benefit projects. The first project is to construct a handicapped-accessible walkway from the parking lot in Grand Marais to the Lake Superior shoreline at Agate Beach. To help raise more funds, this year we have added a Grand Prize raffle drawing. Only 250 tickets will be sold at $20 each. A limited number of grand prize raffle tickets will be sold online. The grand prize is a Kingsley North cabbing machine (value $1,399). Runner-up prizes include an agate window from Karen Brzys (value $200 or more) and a hand-knapped obsidian spear point or knife (value $100 or more). Raffle tickets will be available for purchase.at the main pole barn entrance and at the east gate entrance during the show, or online before the show at grandmaraisrockandmineralshow.com. Those who purchase tickets online can either pick them up at the main entrance to the show (south side of the pole barn), or you can request that we send you an email before the show with a photo of your ticket(s). We will fill out the tickets on your behalf that go into the raffle box with your contact information.
--PLEASE DO NOT USE THE INDOOR TOILETS At our first show in 2019, we completely overwhelmed the very fragile septic system at the community center. The bathroom facility is not designed to handle such a large crowd. There are ports-potties and hand sanitizing stations outside on the show's grounds. Please use these or walk over to the flush toilets in the campground right next to the community center complex. The indoor toilets in the community center building are reserved for show personnel and individuals with special needs. The bathroom facilities will also be available to those attending the dinner and speech.
--SHOW ENTRANCES AND EXITS Like last year, attendees will be able to pay their entrance fee and enter the show either through the main gate at the south end of the pole barn, or at the east gate that leads to the baseball field behind the community center. The entrance fee is $2.00 for attendees 13 and older; kids 12 and under are free. Tickets for the 50/50 raffles can also be purchased at both gates. Tickets for the Saturday night keynote speaker dinner will be available at the door as you enter the community center (east building in the complex next to the pole barn). Dinners are $20/person.
--FOOD TRUCKS Food trucks will be set up in the grassy area behind the community center and next to the east gate. The food trucks will be accessible to show attendees as well as to the general public since they are being situated in an area outside of the ball field fence.
--MUSIC During the afternoons on Saturday, there will be music from the stage behind the pole barn. This will be easy listening, background music to enhance the ambience. The performer this year is Mark Bowen, who is also an agate enthusiast. He spends most of his time performing on Mackinac Island.
